More about this game
In The Rewrite: Not a Trope, you act as the Stabilizer supporting Jack after the Stair Incident. Your goal is to guide his recovery across five scenes by selecting dialogue options that respect his autonomy. Each choice affects Jack's Agency (starting at 52) and the Trope Meter (starting at 18). Building Agency empowers Jack, while falling into controlling pity tropes increases the Trope penalty. The run ends after the fifth scene, with the final outcome depending on whether you successfully maintained his agency or let care become control.
Tips
- Keep the Trope Meter below 55 to avoid triggering a red warning state. Choosing options that take over for Jack will heavily penalize this meter.
- Choose dialogue options that ask questions or offer menus to maximize your Agency gain, which defaults to 13 points for positive choices.
- Pay attention to the tone tags under each choice, like "Ask, don't assume" or "Take over", to predict how it will affect Jack's trust and autonomy.
FAQ
- How do I get the best ending?
- To get the "He kept the pen" ending, finish the five scenes with an Agency score of 60 or higher and keep the Trope Meter below 65. This proves you supported Jack without controlling him.
- What happens if the Trope Meter gets too high?
- If the Trope Meter reaches 55 or above, the number turns red as a warning. If it exceeds 78 by the end of the fifth scene, you will receive the "Revision required" ending where care became control.
- What does the Fourth-Wall Breaker do?
- The Fourth-Wall Breaker provides live notes on the scene and offers commentary on your choices. You can tap their portrait at any time to receive a hint about protecting Jack's dignity and avoiding narrative tropes.
